Pouches
Pouches are a long ring of fabric that is worn over the shoulder and across the body.  The baby sits in the pouch of the fabric.

Why Choose a Pouch?
Simplicity.  A pouch is a great starter for a first-time slinger!  Just pop the baby in and go.  They are lightweight and great for keeping in a purse or diaper bag.

Pros

Cons

  • Short learning curve.  Probably the easiest carrier to use
  • Poppable for the child who wants to be picked up and put down frequently
  • Breastfeeding is possible in a pouch
  • Streamlined look
  • Lightweight and easily packed in purse/diaper bag
  • Pouches are a versatile carrier that will grow with your baby through toddlerhood.
  • No rings allow for a comfortable carry
  • Easy to put on

  • Less adjustable for different size wearers.  Both Mom and Dad may not fit the same carrier
  • Less versatile for different carries
  • Less discreet for breastfeeding than a ring-sling
  • Less comfortable for extended wearing or for heavier babies/toddlers as the weight is only distributed across one shoulder
  • Can be uncomfortable if using the wrong size
